This is the ceramic sculpture gallery of Mort Cohn.
Artist Statement:
"In 1958, at he age of 18, I was obliged, like so many others, to register for the draft. I chose to register as a conscientious objector in the conviction that if enough people refused to join the military, the politicians would be at a loss for soldiers to fight their wars. It may have been a naive view (there are always those who will sign up) but to this day, I believe that, in theory, it is true. I still hold to the belief that war, in all its horror and destruction, is a tragic failure of imagination. How long it will take for human kind to evolve beyond the futility of warfare is an unknown, but as long as there are voices that speak truth to power and continue to denounce and resist the war mongers and advocate for a world without war, there is hope for peace.
My antiwar sculpture is directed toward exposing and satirizing the dehumanizing absurdity and sorrow of war. In this way, I continue to add my voice to the antiwar movements and join with kindred spirits everywhere."
